MSPs have been around since the 1990s. Initially, they were known as Application Service Providers (ASPs), which were solely responsible for remote IT infrastructure management. Over the years their services have expanded to include mobile device management, remote firewall administration, and security-as-a-service.
The first books on the topic of managed services were “Service Agreements for SMB Consultants” and “The Guide to a Successful Managed Services Practice,” both of which were published in 2006 by Palachuck and Simpson respectively.
